Why the Migration
Alaska Arms needed to move a stalled Shopify project onto BigCommerce and establish a more dependable ecommerce foundation. The migration also needed to address product-data inconsistencies, improve core storefront experiences, and reduce search risk during the platform change.
What Had to Be Protected
The migration requirements included several assets and operating needs that needed to be carried forward or accounted for:
Product, category, and customer data.
Product attributes, variants, and catalog details.
Existing URLs, metadata, and search visibility.
Core customer-facing content and product information.
The ability to support the existing catalog while improving navigation and category structure.
Migration Plan
The transition combined catalog migration, data cleanup, UX/UI redesign, category and navigation improvements, and SEO-preservation work.
1. Transfer Shopify data into BigCommerce using Cart2Cart.
2. Review product attributes, variants, and catalog details after transfer.
3. Redesign the Homepage, Product Page, and supporting customer-facing experiences.
4. Map URLs and metadata and implement 301 redirects as part of the SEO-preservation plan.
5. Correct internal error pages and other identified search issues.

Build & Transfer

Data Migration & Catalog Cleanup
Product, category, and customer data were transferred from Shopify to BigCommerce using Cart2Cart. The implementation also included manual review of attributes, variants, and catalog details and work to resolve identified product-data inconsistencies.

UX/UI Rebuild
The Homepage and Product Page were redesigned in Adobe XD, with category layouts and navigation pathways reworked around clearer hierarchy and product discovery.

SEO & Redirects
URL mapping, metadata cleanup, 301 redirects, and correction of internal error pages were included as search-preservation measures during the platform transition. These measures are not presented as proof that all rankings or SEO value were fully preserved after launch.

Search Foundation
The project also included title-tag and meta-description work plus backlink activity described as targeted to relevant industry sources.
Launch Validation
Transferred product attributes, variants, and catalog details were manually validated after migration.
