Why the Migration
Catalyst Shop needed to move from an aging Magento environment to BigCommerce while supporting a click-and-brick retail model, a large surf and outdoor catalog, multi-location inventory, and oversized-product shipping. The transition also needed to modernize the storefront and reduce search risk without losing the operational logic the business depended on.
What Had to Be Protected
The migration needed to account for several business-critical elements:
Products, catalog structure, and existing customizations.
Existing URLs, SEO fields, and organic search equity.
Multi-location inventory rules used across physical locations.
Shipping logic for oversized surfboards and regional destinations.
Customer and order-management requirements.
Search, filtering, email, and analytics integrations used by the operation.
Migration Plan
The transition combined Magento data migration, search-preservation work, a custom BigCommerce theme, and configuration of inventory, shipping, search, and marketing systems.
- Move product and catalog data into BigCommerce using Cart2Cart and custom data processing.
- Map URLs and SEO fields as part of the search-preservation effort.
- Rebuild the storefront on a custom BigCommerce theme with mobile-focused layouts.
- Configure multi-location inventory and ShipperHQ rules for oversized and regional shipping.
- Implement Searchanise, Klaviyo, analytics, and related supporting systems.

Build & Transfer

Data & Catalog Migration
Product datasets, surfboard categories, inventory information, and existing customizations included in the project were moved into the BigCommerce environment.

Custom Theme & Storefront
The new storefront was built on a custom BigCommerce theme with refreshed homepage, landing-page, collection, and mobile experiences.

Inventory & Shipping Configuration
Multi-location inventory requirements were incorporated into the build. ShipperHQ was configured for dimensional surfboard shipping, regional rules for Hawaii and Puerto Rico, weight restrictions, and fallback logic for multi-location fulfillment.

Search, Filtering & Marketing Systems
Searchanise and Klaviyo were integrated, and analytics configuration was included as part of the broader platform setup.

SEO & URL Preservation
URLs and SEO fields were included in the migration work as preservation measures. These activities are not presented as proof that all domain authority, rankings, or organic visibility were retained without change.
Launch Validation
User pathways were tested across desktop and mobile, and ShipperHQ scenarios were tested as part of the launch process.

Post-Migration Outcome
Catalyst Shop launched on BigCommerce with the catalog, multi-location inventory, shipping logic, search/filtering, email integration, and refreshed storefront incorporated into the migration. The implementation created a platform foundation aligned with the business’s operational requirements.
Needs Verification - Prior claims about conversion lifts, reduced customer-service tickets, fewer abandoned carts, faster performance, exponential business growth, and complete SEO/ADA preservation require supporting evidence before publication. The protected client review remains separate and unchanged.

We worked with traditional agencies before but it was hard to get ROI at $200 plus an hour and it left us scared to optimize and give our e-commerce platform the attention it needed to really grow. Always Open Commerce changed this. They now help us manage as well as built us a platform that has helped our business grow exponentially over the past few years. Using AOC we are able to see exactly what we are paying for with their unique but client focused payment structure. Their communication, pricing, and completion time on tasks is excellent and the best we have seen in the business. We highly recommend Always Open Commerce for any of your website development and management needs.
