The Challenge
BigCommerce was starting to feel restrictive for the type of curated, room based shopping experience they wanted to deliver, and their Philadelphia agency partner was billing around $250 per hour. The quality was not the issue, the economics were. At that rate, their budget did not stretch very far, which limited how much progress could be made each month. They needed a partner that understood SMB realities, could execute a BigCommerce to Shopify migration, and who would design a site that reflected how they actually work with homeowners and builders.

Project Goals
Execute a platform migration from BigCommerce to Shopify.
Perform an SEO safe migration, including URL mapping, metadata transfer, and 301 redirects
Transfer store data via Cart2Cart and validate the migrated content and structure
Craft new page and template designs with a modern, interior-studio aesthetic
Create more intuitive navigation for homeowners and builder tied collections
Redesign header and footer with future product and category expansion in mind
Implement a “Featured Mood” module to showcase inspiration and style direction
Build a “Shop Real Rooms” experience that lets users shop curated, model inspired spaces
Improve login and account flows so builder partners and homeowners can access the right experience easily
Design an abandoned cart email template and refresh key content pages, including About Us and loyalty content
Our Approach
We started with a structured BigCommerce to Shopify migration plan, using Cart2Cart to move core store data and layering SEO protections on top through URL mapping, metadata migration, and redirects. Once the foundation was in place, our UX/UI designer built Figma layouts for the new Shopify Fresh theme, focusing on clearer navigation paths for homeowners, builder partners, and “Shop Real Rooms” visitors.
The development team then implemented the approved designs, built the Featured Mood and Shop Real Rooms sections, and reworked header, footer, and account flows to match how Decor Direct engages with floorplan based collections and design clients. Finally, we created an abandoned cart email template and refreshed key storytelling areas like About Us to better highlight their services and Sapphire Club loyalty benefits.

Outcome
Decor Direct moved from a constrained BigCommerce build and a high-cost agency model to a Shopify store and partner that better match their budget and growth plans. The new site presents their model home inspired collections, builder workflows, and design services in a way that feels more like their studio experience and less like a generic catalog.
With SEO preserved, data migrated cleanly, and a modern UX now in place, Decor Direct has a solid Phase 1 foundation. Phase 2 will focus on deepening their product data structure to support richer filtering, collections, and merchandising, giving their team even more control over how they present complete rooms and curated looks to homeowners and builder clients.
