Launch Context
Metro Screenworks needed to rebuild its BigCommerce storefront on a new theme without discarding years of pricing logic, content, product configuration, and operating history. The project combined custom design implementation, theme integration, asset preparation, and careful synchronization between the live store and development environment.
Built To Do More
The refreshed storefront needed to meet several build requirements:
Resync the live environment into the sandbox before development.
Preserve in-scope content, pricing structures, and product customizations during the rebuild.
Track pricing changes made after the development sync so they could be reapplied before launch.
Implement the client-provided Adobe XD homepage and navigation direction.
Adjust selected theme behavior, including background-video behavior.
Refresh the customer-facing experience without unnecessarily changing established product architecture.
Experience & Build Strategy
The build separated preservation-sensitive operational data from the new front-end presentation. The production site was resynced into the sandbox, post-sync pricing changes were tracked, and the supplied design direction was adapted to the selected theme with assets resized for its requirements.

Key Build Decisions

Environment Synchronization
A clean production-to-sandbox resync established the development baseline before theme work began.

Pricing & Content Preservation
Pricing changes made after the sync were tracked for reapplication, while in-scope content and product structures were reviewed during implementation.

Custom Design Implementation
The client’s supplied XD direction for homepage and navigation was adapted to the new theme, including preparation of assets for the theme’s dimension requirements.

Theme Behavior & Functionality
Theme settings were adjusted, including removal of unwanted auto-playing background-video behavior, and key storefront functionality was restored after integration.
Launch Readiness
Product and category structures were reviewed after theme integration, with milestone approvals gathered throughout the project.
Final reconciliation confirmed that in-scope legacy data, pricing, content, and customizations were preserved through the theme rebuild and launch process.

Launch Outcome
Metro Screenworks completed the BigCommerce theme rebuild with its supplied design direction, tracked pricing updates, core product/category structure, and required storefront functionality incorporated into the refreshed experience. The outcome is presented as a completed rebuild rather than as proof of higher engagement or quantified usability improvement.

AOC helped update a client's big commerce website with a new theme that included some custom design. I've spearheaded over a dozen website builds in the last decade as a marketing director - this was hands down the most successful and enjoyable website project I've ever been a part of. The team is talented, communicative and respectful of timelines. The end project exceeded our expectations! Working with the AOC team has been an absolute blessing.
