The Challenge
The existing BigCommerce store was running on an old version of the Peak theme, and it was starting to show it. Category descriptions were either duplicating or disappearing, legacy customizations were breaking, and the codebase was full of undocumented scripts from previous developers. Before finding AOC, the team reached out to multiple BigCommerce partners, but most provided quick quotes without digging into the actual issue.
What they really wanted was a partner who would investigate first, then quote, someone transparent on pricing who would respect a century-old brand and handle the upgrade carefully. AOC stood out by looking into the problem before proposing a solution, then delivering a clear plan to modernize the theme, fix the category logic, and clean up the codebase rather than just patching over it.

Our Approach
Our team began by completing a full audit of Langston's theme, scripts, and customization files. We identified essential scripts and safely removed unused or outdated ones, clearing the code base before updating. We then created a structured plan to migrate the Peak theme from v1 to v3 while preserving design elements and rebuilding affected customizations. After upgrading, we restored necessary customizations and implemented a scalable fix for category descriptions using BigCommerce's split-handlebar logic. Throughout the project, we documented findings, provided recommendations, and ensured the site moved to a stable, maintainable, and user-friendly foundation.

Outcome
The updated Peak v3 store gives Langston’s a modern, stable BigCommerce foundation that matches the strength of their in-store reputation. Category pages now behave consistently, performance and maintainability are improved, and future updates are far less risky thanks to a cleaned-up codebase and proper documentation. After contacting several BigCommerce partners, the client appreciated that AOC investigated first, quoted transparently, and finished in fewer hours than expected, which cemented us as their go-to partner for future work.
