The Specialized Need
Sky’s the Limit Car Care needed to move from an outdated Cornerstone theme to a current version without losing the custom scripts, apps, and storefront behavior that had accumulated over time. Because the existing implementation had not been built by Always Open Commerce, the project required technical discovery before the upgrade could be performed safely.
Requirements & Constraints
The upgrade needed to satisfy several technical requirements:
Audit the existing Cornerstone v1.17.0 theme and identify custom code, widgets, scripts, and dynamic elements.
Determine which customizations should be migrated, rebuilt, or retired.
Move headers, footers, custom HTML, CSS, and scripts into Cornerstone v6.12.0.
Resolve page-specific layout, script, and app issues found during the upgrade.
Review responsive behavior across key templates and devices.
Leave the storefront in a more maintainable state for future work.
Custom Solution
The project used an audit-first theme-upgrade process. Existing custom behavior was cataloged before the new Cornerstone version was introduced, allowing the implementation team to move required elements deliberately instead of treating the upgrade as a simple theme replacement.

The legacy theme, custom code, widgets, scripts, and dynamic sections were reviewed to establish the migration plan.
Cornerstone Upgrade & Customization Transfer
The store was moved to Cornerstone v6.12.0, with in-scope header, footer, HTML, CSS, scripts, and other required behavior transferred or rebuilt in the new theme.
Page & App Troubleshooting
Page-specific layout issues, broken scripts, and app conflicts identified during the upgrade were addressed across the relevant storefront templates.
Responsive Stabilization
Homepage, product, category, brand, About, and other representative experiences were reviewed and adjusted for responsive behavior.
Validation
The upgraded theme was previewed and adjusted against the prior customer-facing experience, with final work focused on representative page behavior, scripts, apps, and responsive layouts.
Outcome
Sky’s the Limit Car Care completed the Cornerstone v6.12.0 upgrade with in-scope custom behavior, scripts, apps, and responsive adjustments incorporated into the updated theme. The protected client review below remains unchanged.
